First Run Training for first 5k

Sometimes a New Year's Resolution sounds much better after you have had a few glasses of wine!! I decided that I would actually pick up running and run a 10k this year. I'm still shooting for the local 10k in November but I stumbled upon a 5k in Mid-March. Doable. Right? umm maybe. I on & off jogged on a treadmill at the gym and I train once a week with a trainer for strength but I'm easily bored and wanted an actual goal to shoot for. I logged on to a runners website, downloaded a 6 week training program & modified it to fit my daily life. I train on Wed. which means that a run mon, wed, sat isn't doable in my schedule. I want my long runs on Sat. So with a few tweaks  here and there with dates I'm able to color off a daily square showing I rocked today. I also decided that running on the treadmill listening to F*** You ( and F her too--i dont care who the "you" is or the "her" is but as I'm gasping through my run I wholeheartedly agree) staring at the reflections of people lifting weights and the occasional passer-by in front of the gym window is BORING. I had the bright idea to run with my lab, Gracie. Oh she needs exercise and is a giant 50+ pound puppy whose favorite pastime is destroying my back yard. I told myself when I rolled out of bed that I was going to run outside today. I knew in my head running on the treadmill was not the same as running outside. Plus there is more to see! I guess I should have checked the weather, It stormed then got cold. Now I had to psych myself up for and "Easy Run" day with a wind that will cut you like a knife (it did) and a lab who listens to my husband more than me. I also went music free which was a challenge because I do love my angry music but I DID IT. My goal was 2 mi @ 14:27. I did my first mi in 11:45 and my second in 14:25 (I ran out of steam). Average pace 13:05 with a total of 26:10. I'm quite proud of myself today.
